Cyber Security Incidents Updates wk14

Here’s your Cyber Security Incidents Update for wk14 2024

(a once-a-week on Monday glimpse into just a fraction of the Cyber Security events of the previous week to inform regarding the depth and breadth of the incidents world-wide)

-Organisation

⦿ MarineMax, a large recreational boat and yacht retailer, Florida, USA with more than 100 locations world-wide

-Data compromised

⦿ customer and employee information, including personally identifiable information, and employee driver's licenses and passports documents

-Organisation

⦿ Hoya Corporation, Tokyo, Japan, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of lenses and other optical gear

-Data compromised

⦿ Not known at this time but the incident has affected some production plants and the ordering system for some products

One piece of good news 👍:

The Prosecutor General's Office in Russia indicted six suspected members of a credit card skimming gang for using malware to steal information from foreign online stores

(for this to happen in Russia is beyond surprising. The suspects must have accidentally affected someone in the Kremlin else they would have turned a blind eye to nefarious acts by their own citizens, as usual 😉)

One final note:

(a follow up to an earlier incident)

In the Update for wk11 there was an item on Leicester City Council shutting down its IT systems due a "security incident". Turns out it was a data exfiltration and ransomware incident (no surprises there, I could have predicted that and should have done the lotto as well). Data exfiltrated is believed to include rent statements, applications to purchase council housing and identification documents such as passport information
